Suprapatellar Pouch Cover The Medial Gutter

This is a normal anatomical opening above the patella separating the extensor mechanism from the anterior femur. The lateral alar fold is a longitudinal structure located closer to the patella that represents the equivalent of the medial alar fold. In some cases this suprapatellar plica may be extensive enough to nearly wall off the superior portion of the suprapatellar pouch.
